Community/Moderation

Moderation in social media refers to community management as well as user-generated content. This involves reading, listening, or responding to content on controlled aspects of social sites, such as a community forum or Facebook group. Creating communities on social media helps build trust among users because the group has users with shared interests, identities, or commonalities. Additionally, the administrator also regulates behavior within the group, creating a sense of comfort within users in the community.

While platforms such as Facebook already have moderation within their groups, it is recommended that other sites like Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat also create these shared communities where someone is regulating users’ actions. Platforms that already have the community aspect should ensure moderation within the groups; Reddit already does this is some way.

We highly suggest that designers ensure there are moderated groups, regardless of whether they’re public or private, for users to have an online community in based on their interests. With regards to social media platforms, we recommend that based on these interests, designers also allow for users to prioritize their feed based on these interests.
